Mazars was delighted to support Druid Debuts Online, the company’s annual rehearsed reading series, which will allowed theatre lovers to experience live readings of four new plays virtually in July.
In 2019, Druid received over 400 scripts via the New Writing submission window. Four plays made their debut via Zoom. The plays are How’s Life by Nina Mitrović, translated by Nina Mitrović and Darren Tighe,Wall by Edward Lee,Four Days in July by Peter Daly and An Honest Woman by Erica Murray.
The Druid Debut series is usually a fixture in the Galway International Arts Festival programme, allowing audiences to experience plays in development. Many previous Druid Debuts have gone on to full production including Furniture by Sonya Kelly which the company toured nationally in 2019.
Playwrights were given professional support, a director, a cast and a short rehearsal period to develop their script. This year, the writer, director and cast met virtually and rehearsed before presenting the reading to an audience via Zoom. The rehearsed readings were live-streamed and not pre-recorded. After each reading, audience feedback was invited as a means of further development.
Druid has a rich history of presenting ground-breaking, award-winning productions and event theatre of established playwrights and popular classics all over the world. In tandem, Druid has been dedicated to producing new work from established and emerging playwrights and has played a major role in the careers of some of Ireland’s most talented playwrights.
