Trainee Consultant

We are looking for trainees to join our expanding Consulting team. This is an exciting opportunity to become involved in a rapidly growing and highly rewarding area of the professional services sector.

The Role

Successful applicants will be employed under a three-year training & development programme to start immediately and in November 2012, in the course of which they will be trained and educated to operate to the highest professional standards across a variety of consulting projects. This will include support towards sitting of any appropriate professional examinations. The trainees’ responsibilities will grow with each year of the contract completed, and any examinations passed. By the end of their training, the applicants will take full responsibility for client consulting assignments.

The ideal candidate will have good interpersonal and client interaction skills, and be capable of applying a rigorous and enthusiastic approach to assignments. Main duties & responsibilities

The responsibilities of the trainee consultant will develop from year to year, based upon experience gained and skills developed. These will include, but are not limited, to:

  • Project planning;
  • Preparation of input and output documents for meetings, workshops and projects;
  • Supporting lead consultants in delivery of all aspects of projects;
  • Marketing and proposal development - preparation and presentation of service proposals;
  • Developing consulting approaches, methodologies and tools.

Principal requirements

  • Degree and/or Masters in one of the following; Mathematics /Statistics, Engineering, Business, Strategy or Human Resources or similar
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Rigour and attention to detail;
  • Ability to operate in a challenging and dynamic environment;
  • Client focused;
  • Self motivated with a confident outlook;
  • Demonstrably strong quantitative and analytic skills (e.g. applied mathematics);
  • Ability to work with spreadsheet and database applications;
  • Ownership and personal responsibility for management and delivery of client projects;
  • Willingness to travel ;
  • Adherence to professional and ethical guidelines and Mazars’ Code of Conduct.

A trainee consultant will be expected to progress and aspire to a:

  • Good, all rounded and sound understanding of business functions
  • Good technical knowledge;
  • Ability to demonstrate competence and transfer knowledge to clients;
  • Demonstrable client interaction and client management skills

Training programme outline

The Mazars Consultant Training Programme is based upon recognition that competence and professional expertise is derived through a combination of real-life experience, structured training and personal motivation and learning. The core service areas of consulting are recognised as:

  • Finance;
  • Human resources;
  • Information technology;
  • Organisation design & development;
  • Process analysis;
  • Project management;
  • Strategy.

Aspirant consultants are expected to gain exposure to all core areas during their training. A Mazars consultant is expected to develop one of these areas as their main service offering, as well as developing a second core area skill as part of their portfolio. Mazars is a member of the Institute of Management Consultants & Advisers, and will support staff in attaining Certified Management Consultant status.

Our training programme aims to structure and coordinate the learning process through identification of the core skills required across all areas of consulting, a structured approach to knowledge transfer on projects and the identification of key training needs at each level.

Trainees are provided with support throughout the training programme

  • All trainees will be assigned a Mentor;
  • Formal quarterly reviews will be held with the Mentor;
  • Continuous feedback from both the Mentor and trainee throughout the year;
  • Training requirements can be identified with the assistance of the Mentor or relevant Manager;
  • Twice-yearly review with Consulting Partner and Manager;
  • Feedback on consulting strategy and plans.
